As a designer, I care deeply about sustainability. I predominantly utilize recycled materials and care to provide productions with useful and practical props. I am detail oriented and color-driven. I care for my designs to elevate storytelling with subtle yet strong meaning
My work has been presented at Out of the Box, The Tank, Bric, TADA Theater, HERE, Vino Theater, Italytime Cultural Center and all over Juneau, Alaska, where I collaborate with Theater Alaska Theater Co. I frequently work as lead designer of the Bushwick Starr’s BIG GREEN THEATER, an educational after-school program, offered to Brooklyn's elementary schools, where I design shows about the climate crisis, written and performed by the students, utilizing solely recycled materials.
I often work with extraordinaire designer Patricia Marjorie. Together, we collaborated on Mason Hooldings’ Small Acts of Daring Intention, the Vineyard Theater’s Perfect Strangers, Rattlestick’s Addressless and Soho Rep’s premiere production of Wolf Play.

Inspired by the late film auteur Jean-Luc Godard's breakthrough movie Breathless, playwright Drew Pisarra’s whirlwind noir concerns two wayward kids who find themselves in over their heads while negotiating the drop-off of a mysterious package to a middle-management menace… in a universe where telephone booths still exist.

The story of Riven centers the interweaving lives of Melina and Alessandra, two black Brazilian catadoras (waste pickers) working at a scrapyard in the city of São Paulo. As these two women sort through piles of waste in the predictable day-to-day of the scrapyard, they must sort through not only the accumulated discards of others, but through the accumulations of their own complex relationship and the chaotic and unforgiving world outside.

PROJECT HISTORY
In 2021, amid the pandemic’s spotlight on essential workers, Marina Zurita spent time in her home city of Sao Paulo, Brazil, interviewing 35 waste pickers over a span of 2 months. The pickers shared with Marina about the shame, community and prejudice embedded in the symbiotic relationship between those who work amongst trash and the trash itself. They also spoke openly and often about the incredibly complex and dissonant mother figures in their upbringing.
Riven has recently been workshopped as a part of the LAB at A.P.E. which supports the development of new work through residency, mentorship, and ongoing conversation with peers in the field of performance making. The LAB was a collaboration between A.P.E. and Serious Play Theatre Ensemble.

THE SPLIT EARTH
Big Green Theater (BGT) is an eco-playwriting program for public elementary school students, produced by The Bushwick Starr. I worked as a Designer on “The Split Earth” written and performed by Williamsburg’s PS84 students.
The curriculum is structured as a creative outlet for students to learn the tools of playwriting and the fundamentals of environmental justice, practice critical thinking, and develop an expressive voice.
Big Green Theater at The Bushwick Starr has grown to encompass the full school year through biannual curriculum in four public elementary school classrooms in Bushwick & Ridgewood. Our program allowed PS84 students to transition from being playwrights to exploring performing, directing, designing, and stage managing alongside an adult ensemble of mentors. The final productions are performed in their school auditorium for fellow students, teachers, families, and the community.
For this edition, I co-designed the show with Clara Wiest, assisted by Talisa Velazquez, using exclusively recycled materials.

Stella, Come Home is a dance-theater piece that translates the iconic American play A Streetcar Named Desire into movement and dance through the bodies of our company's international women. We feel urged to explore what it means to perform this pinnacle of white US theater as women immigrants in New York City, one of the most heterogeneous cities in the world. Just as a reality-stricken Blanche longs for a return to her imagined Belle Reve, we are outsiders going through the painful struggle of letting go of our past, while the promised land of NYC forces us to face our truth: culturally diverse women still have to fight to be heard.
By Federica Borlenghi, presented at the Italytime Cultural Center, June 2022.
This sensorial play is a community-based experiment, exploring the experience of international women living in New York City. Investigating themes of language, cultural expression, and familial separation, this piece invites audiences to consider what it means to exist between places called "home".

RIVERVILLE GOES DOWN
Big Green Theater (BGT) is an eco-playwriting program for public elementary school students that uplifts the imaginations of young people most impacted by our new climate reality and brings their ideas to life on stage ran by The Bushwick Starr. BGT aims to inspire students to manifest a sustainable and just community by using the power of their creative voice.
The curriculum is structured as a creative outlet for students to learn the tools of playwriting and the fundamentals of environmental justice, practice critical thinking, and develop an expressive voice. Guest professionals from the fields of science and activism visit the BGT classroom to lead interactive presentations, and students also take field trips to engage with the people and problems most relevant to their community. Students collaborate with each other to write plays inspired by these interactions.
Big Green Theater at The Bushwick Starr has grown to encompass the full school year through biannual curriculum in four public elementary school classrooms in Bushwick & Ridgewood. Our Fall BGT program allows students to transition from being playwrights to exploring performing, directing, designing, and stage managing alongside an adult ensemble of mentors. The final productions they create are performed in their school auditorium for fellow students, teachers, families, and the community. Our Spring BGT program culminates in a professional production at The Bushwick Starr theater, and is open for free public attendance.
The P.S. 106 BGT Team worked tirelessly with amazing students to bring the students' original play Riverville Goes Down to life! Full of a cast of characters including local townspeople, government officials, and vegan/vegetarian animals and creatures, this work reflected the importance of seeing everyone as a stakeholder in working collaboratively to actualize sustainable change in one's neighborhood/local environment.

Three women, the Moire, are responsible for each individual's life, represented by a string. Sýrma is a short play set in this kind of universe, where everyone has the illusion of being a decision-maker, while in reality, they are unable to choose their destiny. Everyone, except for one young woman. Sýrma, a unique contemporary myth, inspired by greek mythology and Dante's Divine Comedy.
